Trevor Wiggins

Dr. Trevor Wiggins studied piano and trumpet at University and continues to perform on piano, mostly as an accompanist. He taught in schools for 7 years, then moved in to Higher Education, training teachers and teaching music to undergraduate and postgraduate students.

He became interested in the music of West Africa and has been a regular visitor and researcher in Ghana since 1988.

From 1991–2010 he was Director of Music at Dartington College of Arts and developed links with universities and colleges across Europe, in the USA, New Zealand and Australia. He has taught Ghanaian drums and xylophones for many years, working with students aged from 6–76. He has a substantial output of academic publications, including co-editing and writing the Oxford Handbook of Children’s Musical Cultures (OUP 2013).

He currently runs a publishing company with his wife and edits an academic journal in Ethnomusicology. Since 2013, he has also been an honorary chief in Ghana.
