Edward Leaker
Mentor – Jazz Saxophone Specialist
Edward Leaker graduated from the Royal Academy of Music with a Master’s Degree in Music Performance, studying under renowned musicians Richard Addison, Martin Speake, and Duncan Lamont. Since then, he has built an enviable reputation as both a freelance saxophonist and educator.
As a performer, Edward’s versatility has made him highly sought after in both classical and jazz circles. His work spans big bands, jazz ensembles, solo recitals, quartets, orchestras, and television appearances. Known for his distinctive sound and thoughtful approach, he is respected among peers for his adaptability and artistry.
A passionate educator, Edward serves as Head of Woodwind at Wells Cathedral School. His extensive teaching experience includes saxophone, clarinet, improvisation, and jazz studies at several leading independent schools, as well as for King’s College London. In addition, Edward leads workshops and ensembles across the UK and acts as a mentor and tutor for South West Music School.
Edward also performs with his own ensembles, including the Swing Machine Jazz Orchestra—a South West-based big band featuring some of the UK’s top jazz musicians—Blaze, an innovative classical crossover group blending saxophone and strings, and The Edward Leaker Band, a dynamic pop-jazz ensemble. All three groups perform nationally and have released albums available on CD and digital download.
